thank you Dorie

Sometime last February I had a conversation with a dear friend. I had been mulling around the idea of growing more in my garden for the 2018 season, and was telling her about my plans to sell and deliver weekly shares of greens and herbs.

As soon as I finished, she said “I would buy a share, and I think I have some friends that would too.” Dorie was sure it would be a success — she told me that the way my eyes sparkled when I talked about it was what convinced her!

When June rolled around, we set up the logistics for delivery. She had a great group of friends that loved getting together at her pool in the summer — so she invited me to show up poolside on Thursdays to hang out and deliver garden goodies.

Thursdays became a highlight of my week. The drive to Dorie’s was aromatic with bunches of cilantro and basil on the seat beside me. It was great meeting everyone and hearing their stories. Of course we had a few glitches in our plan — a few rainy days and the Fourth of July activities prevented pool time. But Dorie graciously hauled bags of greens and fresh Amish eggs home — and made sure her friends got their shares.

I’m so grateful for that February conversation! Thank you Dorie for telling me about the “sparkle” you saw in my eyes, and for encouraging me to BEGIN.
